How to Help Children to Develop Uncluttering and Organization Skills

January 27, 2012 | No Comment |

When Nichole was in third grade, she wanted to be a pilot, and she grew up to be one. She was focused and came up with this idea on her own. Most children in third grade still do not have the foresight and determination to tell what they want to be in the future. Nichole had this foresight and her parents helped her by listening and developing her determination to achieve her goals.

Nichole ’s parents helped her to create goals and follow a clear path right from the beginning. For example, she had a chore chart in elementary school, which told her what she had to do every day. She had to follow this chart, right from the time of brushing her teeth in the morning, to going to bed. She was taught to complete her chores and was always under supervision. At the end of the day, the chart would be reviewed, to see what she had successfully achieved. A record of her accomplishments would be kept, and she would often get rewarded for them. In addition, Nichole ’s parents also tried to ensure that she did her homework and learnt something from every subject.

One can understand that Nichole was able to achieve her goals because of her parents. This is because; they provided her with guidance and helped her to develop skills that were essential to her success.

Uncluttering

The above books guide parents on, how to help their children have self control, become organized and uncluttered. The things recommended in the books include the following.

1. Parents should set goals for their children at a young age. However, as they move into middle school, the children should be encouraged to set goals for themselves.

2. Children should be trained in how to complete tasks and achieve their goals. For example, if a parent wants a child to make their bed, he should show this child how a bed should be made. This will enable the child know what is expected of him.

3. Parents should monitor the progress of their children, as far as routine is concerned. Children often take some time to get used to routines. However, this can be achieved with constant monitoring and time to allow the child to master the task at hand. It should be made clear to the child that he s being monitored because of the desire to see him succeeding.

4. Each time that a child has made an achievement, he should be rewarded. It is essential that the rewards are set along with the goals, in order for the child to know what he is working for. As soon as the goal is met or the task completed, the child should be rewarded. Rewards that could be given include stickers and extra TV time among others.

5. Rules that are reasonable should be created for a reason. Rules should not be created for the sake of it, but instead they should be created with the aim of building skills and promoting positive behavior. In addition, the rules created should be age appropriate.

6. The set rules should always be enforced without exception. Therefore, every time the child does not do what is expected of him, parents should respond in the same manner.

In some cases, parents often feel that it is easier to do their children’s tasks for them. However, it should be noted that this is not fair to the child, because he will not be able to develop certain life skills.
